The Scout Promise

On my honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to The King,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law.
Our group is open to adults and children of all faiths and of none, and we respect the different beliefs of everyone. Alternative wordings of the promise that both young people and adults may wish to use to best reflect their beliefs are available. Please let us know if you would like us to provide these.

The Scout Law

  1. A Scout is to be trusted.
  2. A Scout is loyal.
  3. A Scout is friendly and considerate.
  4. A Scout belongs to the world-wide family of Scouts.
  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
  7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.

The Uniform

Scouts wear a uniform during their weekly meetings and sometimes on trips away, depending on where they are going and what they are doing. Usually, this consists of a teal green shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with a scarf, known as a necker.

Alongside their shirts, Scouts might wear the accompanying blue uniform trousers or skirt, or they might save their uniform bottoms to wear for special occasions like awards ceremonies and public events – choosing to wear something more casual with their shirt during the week. Optional accessories such as hats, hoodies, are also available.

Where to get your uniform

Necker’s are provided free of charge by the group.

Uniform can be purchased from the Scout Shop here: https://shop.scouts.org.uk/scouts-sections/scouts/scouts-uniform.

The Meetings

Meetings are held weekly at the time detailed above. Scouts are expected to be present on time, and in uniform unless otherwise informed.

At the beginning of a meeting the Scout leader will take the register before the Scouts stand to attention and unfurl the flag. This marks the beginning of the meeting. At this point, the activities planned by the Scout leader begin.

At the end of the meeting, Scouts will stand to attention and lower the flag before the meeting is concluded.

Badges

After being invested, your Scout will receive the Membership, Group Name Tape, District and County badges to be sewn onto their uniform.

The position of the badges is detailed below, and more information about where they should be placed can be found here:

And as your Scout attends meetings and joins in the Scouting activities they will be awarded other Activity badges. The full list of badges can be found here.
